How to Combat Oily Skin
For your skin, warm weather usually means one thing: oil. As the temperatures get higher, our skin produces more oil and sweat – which means more clogged pores and breakouts. If you have particularly oily skin, taming it during the summertime can be challenging.
Here is how you can combat oily skin with easy to find products:
Cleanse both morning and night
For those with dry skin, cleansing your face once a day may be all that you need. However, if you have oily skin, you want to make sure to cleanse twice a day (both in the morning and at night) to get rid of dirt and oil. For most, a gentle cleanser, such as the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, will work perfectly. However, if you have acne prone skin, you may want to use a cleanser specifically formulated for deep cleaning during the nighttime, such as the Clean & Clear Deep Action Cream Cleanser.
Remove excess dirt and oil with a toner
Sometimes, cleansing isn’t enough. You may also want to use a toner to get rid of any leftover dirt and oil after you cleanse (not to be confused with makeup removal, which should be done first). Using a toner is not absolutely necessary but recommended, especially for those with oily skin. You want to use a toner that is alcohol free so that it doesn’t dry up your skin, such as the Neutrogena Alcohol Free Toner. Alcohol free toners prevent any skin tightening or stinging that many other toners are known for.
Get rid of clogged pores
Oily skin can easily cause clogged pores. Once your pores are clogged, it’s difficult clear them with just everyday cleansing. Routine facials will keep your pores clean but for a more budget friendly option, use at-home masks and treatments. A great option is the Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips. Biore makes pore strips for both your nose and face and they really get the gunk out of your pores.
Use oil free moisturizers and sunscreens
Many people with oily skin make the mistake of using products made of oils, fragrances, and other irritants. To keep your pores as clear as possible, use natural products made for sensitive skin. Basically, the less ingredients the better. For a moisturizer, try the Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer. Also, remember to get oil free sunscreen the next time you’re outdoors.
Spot treat when necessary
If your oily skin is already causing acne, be sure to spot treat each breakout. Acne treatments contain benzoyl peroxide work well against large breakouts. Try the Oxy Treatment Lotion – Maximum Spot Treatment.
