One of the great things about coconut oil is how easy it is to use. It is colorless and has a fresh smell. At room temperature, the oil is going to have a solid buttery form. We’ve all got beauty questions. Sometimes products make claims, and we’re not sure if those are real or just hype. In this post, I’ll answer some of the most common beauty questions.

Can I make my hair grow faster?

Not really. You can, however, improve the strength of your hair and improve blood flow to the scalp which gives you healthier hair. Try scalp massages, and use a good shampoo and moisturizing conditioner. Products like Biosilk Silk Therapy protect your hair from heat damage and stop breakage. Split ends can actually make your hair look shorter, so you can give the illusion of longer hair if you keep it healthier.

Can you erase sun damage?

Nothing can fully fix the damage, but you can minimize what’s already been done and lower the chances of more sun damage. Eat walnuts, salmon, and an extra slice of chicken on your daily sandwich, and you’ll get the best results.

Can you fix thinning hair?

Again, it’s a yes and no answer. If your hair is fine textured, no amount of ‘fixes’ are going to change that. You can, however, make it appear thicker by using volumizing shampoos and conditioners and other products. If the problem is hair that is thinning, it might be your diet. Essential fatty acids can fix that problem, but you should see your doctor if you’re losing a lot of hair or it appears noticeably thinner. It could be a medical or medication problem that is causing your thin hair.

I read What Makes a Face Beautiful recently, and was surprised. Did you know that facial symmetry is a factor in beauty to our brains? To our brains, beauty has more to do with perceived good health than it has to do with aesthetics.

Beauty is also socially influenced. In simple terms, if we like someone or are close to them, that means we perceive them as more beautiful. Our spouses, daughters, and other loved ones are all more beautiful in our eyes. I’m sure this comes as no surprise to anyone.

Another thing that didn’t surprise me about this article – ‘A luminous, unblemished complexion is another factor in attractiveness… There are mainly two reasons for that: Flawless skin indicates good health and youth.’

Finally, something I can work on! I’m not able to change my genetics, but I can better (and maintain) my complexion. It’s often the first thing I notice about someone – their skin. Is it smooth and unblemished? Do they have dry skin, or does it look moist and well taken care of?

That’s not to say that a few little fine lines around the eyes make you less attractive. In my opinion, a laugh line or two just makes you more beautiful. (Of course, I might think that because I’ve got one…or two or twenty.)

How do you keep you skin looking flawless? There are three simple steps.

• Exfoliate.

When you exfoliate, you remove the dead skin cells that can make your complexion look muddy. Use a gentle exfoliating cleanser, and do it every other day. Three or four times a week is plenty, unless you have dry skin. If your skin is dry, you might want to cut that back to one or two times a week.

• Moisturize.

Moisturize daily, and start when you’re young. If you’re no longer young, it’s not too late. A daily moisturizer is a must, and it can undo years of damage. Just start now, and keep using it.

• Protect.

Protect your face (and your body) with sunscreen. The sun is your complexion’s enemy – and I’m not overstating. Look at the skin on the inside of your upper arm. See how smooth and soft it is? That’s because the sun never touches it. Use sunscreen and protect your face from UV damage. Laugh lines are great – sun discoloration and dryness, not so much.

Beauty is subjective. I find that when I feel beautiful, people perceive me as beautiful. To me, beauty has more to do with the inner woman than the outer woman. What do you consider beautiful? As women, our lives are full of responsibilities, whether work-related or family and child-related. Our time is often spent on taking care of others and we don’t spend nearly enough time on ourselves. Sometimes we need to be reminded that our wants and our needs are just as important as everyone else’s; it is important to take a little time to pamper ourselves.

I can hear you now, telling me that you don’t have the time to pamper yourself, that you are too busy and cannot possibly take time out from your busy schedule to treat yourself with the tender loving care that you need. But taking the time to pamper yourself doesn’t have to mean taking time off from work or spending an inordinate amount of time at any one go. It means just taking ten minutes here and there throughout the day or the week to do something to make you feel better, to make you feel prettier and to help you feel more relaxed.
Here are five simple ways to pamper yourself that won’t take much time.

1. Take a few minutes each morning, when you step out of the shower, to lotion your skin. Pick a lotion that softens and moisturizes, and use a moisturizer with sun protection on your face. You’ll feel the difference such a simple act will make in how your skin feels and looks, and it can help to prevent premature aging and skin damage. Moisturizing your skin can help to minimize the harmful effects on your skin caused by stress and pollution.

2. Paint your fingernails and toenails. You don’t have to take the time and spend money on going for a professional manicure or pedicure. 5. Give yourself a mini make-over. Change your make-up routine. Try some lipstick in a different color than you normally wear. If you normally wear pastel shades, try bolder colors. Try a new color of eye liner or a new brand of mascara. Sometimes you can get into a rut with your make-up routine and changing things, even if just for a day, can help you feel better about yourself and help you to see yourself differently. It means really having to look at yourself and spend time working out what other styles look good on you.

Just spending a few minutes here and there throughout your busy life can mean the world when it comes to reminding yourself that your needs and desires are important. You need to take time to pamper yourself, and with just a moment taken out of your schedule once in a while, you can.
