According to StatisticBrain.com approximately 34% of Americans made that same resolution.  Spending less money is a great goal to strive for but many people don’t know where to begin.  So we came up with a few tips to start you on your way…

Do-it-Yourself

• Brewing your own coffee or tea at and taking it to go can save you over $500 per year
• Blow, style, color and curl your hair at home.  Over $100 at the salon or less than $10 per box at home
• Treat yourself to an at-home manicure and pedicure and save over $60 each time
• Pack a lunch, save over $10 per meal, and avoid the greasy fat filled foods that restaurants serve
• Invite friends over instead of going out for dinner/drinks
• Drink more water, not only is it good for you its FREE!

Make a Plan

• Plan meals and shopping outings around sales and discounts available
• Pre-cook meat and vegetables with little seasoning for easy on the go meals that can be customized with flavors as you go.
• Sign up for mint.com and start tracking your spending, plan a budget and save for retirement
• Plan activities for your children that don’t cost a lot of money, you might be surprised at how easily they can be entertained
• Get rid of unused or infrequently used memberships and subscriptions
• Buy used clothes, cars and other items whenever you can

You’ve just colored your hair. And you absolutely hate it. What are you going to do? You can’t go out looking this way, and you can’t wear a hat until it grows out.

If you’ve had it done at a salon, and you’re not satisfied, don’t be afraid to go back and let them correct the color. Most salons will fix their mistakes free of charge. They want you to be happy, because customers who are happy keep coming back.

If your problem is bleached hair that looks brassy, and you’ve lightened your hair only a couple of shades, try a blue-toned shampoo. You can find this shampoo at any drugstore. Alternatively, you could have a colorist apply a blue toner.

If the shampoo doesn’t work, you can use a semi-permanent hair color in a similar shade to tone it down. To prevent this from happening in the future, choose an ashy shade, use a color protection shampoo and hair products with a thermal protectant.

If your hair color has faded, what color did you use? Red hair color fades faster than any other color. If it’s been at least six weeks, you can use a semi permanent color, again. Be careful – some semi-permanent colors can leave a permanent tint on bleached blonde or chemically lightened hair. When a new season comes around I often find myself wanting a new hair color. This is especially the case as we transition from the dark and gloomy winter into the bright Spring/Summer. There are many factors that come into play when choosing what color you want to go with when you color your hair so I’ve put together a list of three tips for you to use.

1.  Don’t just choose the trendiest color available. Obviously red hair is huge right now. Tons of stars are doing it. But the red hair look is pretty bold and may not be for everyone.  Marie Robinson from Glamour magazine says, “It’s always a good rule of thumb to start on the more subtle end of the spectrum, because you can always go bolder.” Take this into account when choosing between the newest hair color trends.
