If you’ve been admiring Blake Lively’s hair on Gossip Girl, you’re not the only one. Her hair style is fast becoming the number one requested cut in salons. Want to know how to get those sexy waves? I’ve put together a little tutorial.

Prep your hair by using a moisturizing shampoo like Kerastase Bain Satin 2. You’re going to be using heat styling, and you want your hair to be soft and silky. You’ll keep your long locks manageable and in good condition.

Gently towel dry your hair. Don’t rub – just blot or pat hair. You can wrap your head in the towel for a few minutes if you’d like. While your hair is still damp, spray the roots with a root lift spray. You want volume with this hairstyle. Blow dry your hair, starting with the roots to create ultra volume.

While your hair is drying, heat a curling iron. If you have longer hair, use a two inch. For shorter hair, use a one inch curling iron. At random, take sections of hair on each side and curl your hair away from your face. After you’re done with the sides, start on the back. Working at random again, take sections of hair and wrap them around the curling iron to curl in different directions.

Put a pea sized amount of Chi Silk Infusion in your palm and rub it between your hairs. Apply it to the ends of your hair, avoiding the roots. This makes your hair soft and silky, but doesn’t reduce your volume. If you have split ends, this will make them look healthier.

Without brushing or combing, pull your hair to the back of your head in a big bun and secure with hair pins. Leave it like this while you’re putting your makeup on or finishing getting ready. It will set your hair and give you a little extra volume. After you take your hair out of the bun, you can tease the roots a little bit for even more volume. Set with a finishing spray.

Voila! You’re done!

You want healthy hair. Who doesn’t? Shiny, beautiful tresses are the thing we’re all striving for. What can you do to get them? You might be surprised at some of the answers.

Eat right. Yes, what you eat definitely has an effect on your hair. Eat walnuts, salmon, and sprinkle flax seeds on your cereal in the mornings. Don’t like any of those things? Omega 3 Supplements will keep your hair healthy, strong, and shiny.

Make sure you get plenty of lean protein in your diet, as well. The recommended amount of protein per day for women 30-50 is about 50 grams per day. That’s the equivalent of two eggs for breakfast, a 3 oz hamburger for lunch, and a chicken breast for dinner.

If you color your hair, don’t over do it. Don’t color more than once a month, or you run the risk of damaging your hair. You’ve stripped the outer layer off your hair when you bleach it; doing it too often strips more, and leaves it vulnerable.

Use shampoo for colored hair and conditioner for colored hair, as well. These hydrate and protect your hair, and keep damage at a minimum.

Use natural boar bristle brushes to brush out your hair. The natural bristles distribute oil more easily through your hair, leaving it more hydrated and less prone to breakage.

Deep condition your hair. If you use heat styling, you should use a deep conditioner once a week, at the very least. If you have very damaged hair, you should do it twice.

Unless you have oily hair, don’t shampoo every day. Try to shampoo every other day. On the days you don’t shampoo, rinse and use conditioner on the ends.

It’s not only men who have problems with hair loss. Lots of women experience hair loss and thinning hair, especially as they age. This is a topic that is near and dear to my heart, since it happened to me. I was experiencing a lot of loss at the hairline, and at the top of my head. Can it be reversed? was my first thought. Or am I going to have to wear a wig for the rest of my life?

Luckily for me, my thinning hair was caused by illness and poor diet. With some dietary changes and time, my hair thickened back up and I’m happy to report that I have no bald patches.

Here’s what I did:

I added Omega 3 Fatty Acids into my diet. I ate salmon and walnuts, and I sprinkled a tablespoon of ground flax seeds on my cereal every morning. Most women don’t get enough Omega 3, and if you can’t stand to eat any of those foods high in this essential vitamin, take a supplement.

I took Evening Primrose Oil, 500 mg, twice a day. Dr Weil, a health advisor who specializes in natural treatments, recommends this. For men who are experiencing hair loss, he says that Saw Palmetto may cause some hair regrowth.

Other things you can do to stop or prevent hair loss:

Stop hair damage. Use a leave in conditioner with a thermal protectant. We all use heat styling on our hair, and protecting it from damage can help stop hair loss.

Don’t style your hair tightly. Twisting and pulling your hair can cause breakage, which makes hair loss appear worse, or even accelerates it.

If you’re taking supplements and eating right, and your hair still hasn’t regrown, don’t despair. It can take about 8 weeks before you see any new growth. Keep it up, and in the meantime, use a good thickening lotion and thickening hairspray. It really makes the most of the hair you have and hides thinning spots.

Do you color your hair, or use other chemical treatments on it? If you do, your hair is fragile. You need to treat it differently than hair that hasn’t had processing.

Chemical treatments swell the cuticle during the process and drys it, plus leaves rough and nicked. This makes it prone to breakage and makes hair dry. Your chemically treated hair has lost a lot of cuticle, and that means it doesn’t absorb conditioners as efficiently.

You always, always want to use shampoo for color treated hair. This shampoo keeps your color from fading and is more gentle, decreasing damage. You need a heavy duty conditioner, as well. Deep condition your hair after any treatment, plus use it on your hair once a week thereafter.

Your chemically treated hair may have lost its shine, as well. If you use shine sprays or finishing sprays, your hair will look healthier, even if its not.

Use a heat protective leave in conditioner, even if you use other conditioners in the shower. They give you even more shine and keep your hair from heat damage both from the styling you do and the sun.

Try to let your hair dry naturally as much as possible. If you just can’t do it, try drying your roots only and leaving the ends damp. Don’t rub a towel on your hair – this can break your hair. Just wrap it in a towel, or blot gently, or both.

Get your hair trimmed regularly. The hair at the ends is usually split worse than at the top, and getting rid of those can make it look much better. Your hair will have swing and bounce once again.

Face Framer

Put gel in the front of your hair before drying. You want a flexible hold that allows your hair to move, not stiffen it, so don’t use a lot. Pull your layers forward as you blow dry so they frame your face and lie flat against your head. Flatiron your bangs, then tousle a little with your fingers.

Blunt Bob

You’re going to want a lot of volume and texture with this cut. Use a root-lifting spray on wet hair, and let your hair air-dry. Blow-dry your bangs to one side. Rub pomade onto the ends of your hair, gently twisting small sections to give yourself even more texture.

Short, Thick Hair

Blow dry your short, thick hair to make it look beautiful and sleek. Use a leave in conditioner – I’m fond of Chi Silk Infusion. Separate the top and bottom sections and dry underneath first, curling your hair around a round brush. Then finish the top section. Use finishing spray to smooth your hair and give it great shine.

Pixie for Thick Hair

You want to add shine and moisture to this cut. Use a moisturizing conditioner to keep your hair from looking puffy. Mix styling cream and gel and apply it to damp hair. Let your hair air dry, or use a round brush and a low setting to blow dry your hair.

Pixie for Fine hair

You don’t want to weigh your hair down and make it too flat. Use a light conditioner and a volumizing shampoo. Then use a root lifter to give yourself a little volume at the top and blow dry roughly. You’ll look cute as a button and ready to go in minutes.

Short, Curly Hair

Deep condition your hair at least three times a week to fight frizz and damage. Mix leave in conditioner and gel to give you a little control. Let your hair air dry and touch up with a shine or anti frizz serum.

If you are tired of styling your long hair the same old way, here are some new styles for you to try out. These easy, beautiful hairstyles will make your shiny, lush locks stand out from the crowd.

Long Curls

First, wash your hair and use a deep conditioning treatment so you get healthy looking hair with great shine.

Blow dry your hair with a round brush. Then use a large barrel curling iron and roll one to two inch sections around the barrel in one direction and then again in the other direction. This will create a wavy, ripply effect.

Use shine spray to maximize your glossy locks.

Naturally Wavy

Use anti-frizz and leave-in conditioner throughout your wet hair.
Wrap a towel around your head to soak up moisture. Don’t rub – that will counteract the anti-frizz.

Unwrap and let your hair air dry. Don’t comb or brush. You’ll get sexy, natural looking waves with no effort whatsoever. If your hair seems too flat, fluff the top and ends with fingers.

Controlled Curls

Mix leave-in conditioner and hair gel to give you wild but not out of control curls. Put through hair generously, then use a wide tooth comb. Scrunch and let air dry. If you can’t wait for that, blow dry on low with a diffuser. Hit with a shine spray for beautiful, bright curls. This works beautifully for thick, coarse hair, but can be used on any hair texture. If your hair tends toward fine texture, go light on the hair products, and you’ll get the same effect.

Wild and Wonderful

Use a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. (You can skip this part if you have thick or coarse hair.) Use a texture amplifier all over, but with special attention paid to the mid length and ends of hair. Blow dry while raking your fingers through your hair. You’ll get big, beautiful hair with lots of volume, and you’ll look great.
