St. Patricks day is a day of celebrating Irish Heritage, eating, drinking and everything green.  But how can you implement green into your St. Pattys day without having to wear it from head to toe?  Here are a few ideas…

WEAR GREEN – but on a smaller scale

• Wear green socks, no one may see them… but at least you’ve got spirit!
• Wear fashionable green jewelry, just an accent piece can be subtle and classy.
• Wear a scarf with green accents and patterns – scarfs are a great way to dress up any outfit.

EAT GREEN – eating green is always a good idea, but you can get especially creative for this holiday

• Green Mac n’ Cheese – use spinach or pesto in your sauce to get the green effect.
• Green cookies, brownies, cupcakes or ice cream – food coloring can make just about anything green.
• Get healthy with a green veggie platter, or slightly less healthy with fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, fried asparagus or fried green beans.  Dip all that in a green avocado dip and you’re good to go!
• Green Broccoli “Pattys” – they taste better than they sound I swear, even your kids will love them!  Take some frozen broccoli from the freezer, 1.5 cups of cheddar cheese, 1 cup of bread crumbs and 3 eggs.  Mix all ingredients together and form into pattys (also a good activity to do with the kids) and lay on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes.  They are cheesy, healthy and delicious!

LIVE GREEN – reduce, re-use, recycle, that’s what it’s all about

• Reduce your waste by using reusable coffee cups, water bottles and grocery bags whenever possible.
• Buy a house plant – they not only look good, but they provide clean air, increase humidity levels and help remove pollutants from the air.

St. Patrick’s Day is obviously for dressing green. But it is also easy to make it about going green. Hosting a St. Patrick’s party and molding it to your green lifestyle is easy. Host a “Green” Party with “Green“ ideas.

Break out your four leaf clover! It’s time to get lucky. St. Patrick’s Day often leaves people stumped for date ideas. You don’t want to spend a ton of money, but you still want to have a good time. Luckily Glamour has you covered with ten cheap St. Patricks Day date ideas.

1. Whip up a few glasses of Irish Coffee and cuddle on the couch while watching Irish specials on TV. The History Channel has a few programs scheduled for tonight with the holiday in mind. I’m hoping they play something from the Cities of the Underground series!

2. Roll up your sleeves and cook a tasty dish inspired by The Emerald Isle.Maybe some thing like potato pancakes. The hotcakes are delicious; they never have leftovers. This recipe works great.

3. Slip on your comfy walking shoes and head out for an evening stroll. The two of you can look for four leaf clovers, or just pretty flowers.

4. You could slip on your dancing shoes and stay in to have a Riverdance dance party. And no need to worry about a playlist; Pandora’s got a few St. Patrick’s Day themed stations! This idea works especially well if you’ve got an axe to grind with your neighbors.

5. Conveniently forget to wear green and tell your lucky lad that he can pinch your cheeks—and more in the bedroom. Bonus points if you try speaking in Irish accents. Is there anything hotter than an Irish brogue?

6. Plan a date night at a local Irish Pub. The keye here is to go early because pubs get packed quickly on the holiday. The green beer will make any crowd worth the wait for a drink. Remember to say a proper Irish toast:

Costume parties are always a fun and creative way to get your friends into the spirit of the holiday. Some great costume ideas include a leprechaun, a shamrock, a pot of gold, or an Irishman.

9. Give a romantic gift. This is something simple that most people don’t usually think of doing.

10. Rent the production – Lord of the Dance. Watch Michael Flatley dance his heart out. Maybe you’ll even pick up some new moves yourself.

My favorite St. Patrick’s Day quote is, “There are only two kinds of people in the world, The Irish and those who wish they were.” This is true. But remember, on St. Paddy’s we’re all Irish, so celebrate as such!
